Name: Rainfall Gender: She-cat Age: 34 Moons Clan: ThunderClan Postion: Medicine Cat
Description/Picture:
Rainfall is a Seal Marble Lynx Point bengal mix, with a creamy ivory coat followed by more of a tawny hued marbling. Her underbelly is off-white, a lighter color than the rest of her pelt, as well as the underside of her neck. Her pelt is short but silk soft; her unusual coloring lets her stand out among the crowd as an almost mesmerizing she-cat. Although this color doesn't occur very often in cats, her own mother was a bengal, and her history explains how it came into her gene pool. Unlike most cats, Rainfall likes to keep herself well-groomed and clean; some cats sneer that she is a kittypet for this, but she merely loves to keep up on her hygiene. As a result her fur is almost always rid of dirt and shines with the sunlight.
She has a slender, graceful physique, and a demeanor that emits more of a gentle feeling than hostile. Rainfall has a straight profile and a smooth way of moving, seeming as if she is gliding from one place to another. Her body type is lithe even though she's a bit taller than the average cat. Rainfall is most often seen carrying her head high with pride, especially after she saves a life, but when depressed, she'll look almost like an abandoned kit; she feels unworthy if she loses a cat, and has a habit of blaming things on herself.
Rainfall isn't the best in all-out battles, but she is fast, and uses her speed to her advantage. Long legs with an equally long tail allow her to balance on almost anything with ease. Her thick, dark-colored tail is normally carried low; she knows her place, that she is neither inferior nor superior to her Clanmates. Rainfall's long whiskers are almost always bent forward in welcoming; perhaps the only time they may be brought back in an irritated, busy or frightened way is if something or someone dangerous invades her home.
Rainfall was named for her unusual sky blue eyes. They are a very light shade of blue, but not icy and forboding unlike a certain cat we all know... or knew. She carries the same small, rounded ears and straight profile as her mother. Even at first glance one would think Rainfall looks too friendly to be a warrior, which is true; one of the reasons she became a medicine cat was because of this.
First Glance: A gentle, beautiful marbled she-cat with light blue eyes.
Personality:
Rainfall is a complex character. She is knowledgeable and intelligent, but would rather stay quiet than speak up. She is not anti-social like her father (whom she never knew), but instead afraid of being rejected and laughed at. Despite this, Rainfall is a very wise cat, and remains calm and collected at all times. She never goes into hysterics and almost nothing surprises her. Some whisper that Rainfall cannot feel any emotion at all, but cats in her past know this is untrue. Rainfall simply doesn't care about rumors or grudges, since she knows it's a lie, and that's all that matters. That being said, Rainfall doesn't take c.rap from anyone. She is gentle and friendly, but when someone insults someone very close to her, she has a serpentine tongue that will strike if provoked. Despite how calm and collected she may look -- and she is! -- Rainfall is actually rather sensitive and has very fragile self-esteem. She is like a piece of glass, knowing she will be broken one day and dreading the moment. However, Rainfall doesn't believe in living in puddles of gloom all day: she enjoys her work and is quite optimistic.
Rainfall sometimes wishes she could leave the Clans or they could live without rules. Now that a time of trouble has descended over the forest, she is more agitated than ever, and works hard to serve her Clan to the best of her ability. She tries not to let her feelings get in the way of her work. Rainfall is prone to jealousy and grudges. Like all cats, Rainfall also has feelings of romance, and has had enough romance for a whole lifetime in the past. Unfortunately, she chose to be loyal to her duty rather than her heart, and has never stopped regretting it since. She broke both a certain cat's heart and her own, but she knows she shouldn't have fallen in love in the first place. What was she to do? She was simply a naive young cat with confused feelings. Although her past has been a rather hard one, Rainfall is gentle with her work and friendly to her Clanmates. She can be wary and distrusting sometimes but only of the cats who deserve it. Otherwise she is welcoming and even fun to be around. The only thing she wishes for is an apprentice, someone to follow in her footsteps.
A few cats still think Rainfall is rather naive, and perhaps she is in some fields of work, but Rainfall tries to do the best she can to please others.
History:
Born on a stormy leaf-bare night, Rainfall's father thought she and her sister, Silverspots (Silverkit then) were a bad omen. As a kit Rainkit never really got acquainted or even talked to her father. He was more like a leopard, always staying in the shadows, anti-social and only saying as much as he needed to, sometimes less. That earned him his name: Leopardtail. However, Rainfall's mother, a loyal ThunderClan warrior, loved Rainkit and Silverkit very much, and so they grew to be strong kits. As a child Rainkit would always gather useless leaves or ferns from the camp and drag them over to the medicine cat's den before being whisked away by her mother back to the nursery. However, the Clan only took amusement in this rather than annoyance, particularly the medicine cat, who commented that perhaps Rainkit should be the medicine cat apprentice. Her mother would hear none of it, though -- she wanted both her kits to be strong warriors. Silverkit was obviously her mother's favorite, anyone could see that. It was because Silverkit took such an interest in battling, learning the warrior code, and respecting boundaries, whereas Rainkit thought that the Clans should live in peace once in a while; they didn't always have to attack someone as soon as they set paw over the border. Rainkit's mother grew angry with her when she voiced these thoughts, so Rainkit learned to shut up and only say necessary things. She looked on in sadness as Silverkit could always voice her opinion no matter what because Silverkit always said the smart, warrior-like things, as her mother said it.
As they grew, Rainpaw and Silverpaw became very close, despite how different their mother treated them. Rainkit began to be a bit more independent and addressed her mother in a way the other queens considered disrespectful. Their mother, already an old cat, became even older and retired to the elder's den; whenever Rainpaw came in she would spit and be silent, but whenever Silverpaw visited she would be kind, friendly and sociable. Rainpaw stopped visiting her mother after awhile, but mothers are mothers, and so Rainpaw decided to follow the path of a warrior. It wasn't long before their warrior ceremonies came around, and Rainpaw knew then that this was irreversable. After her mother died, Rainfall asked to be the medicine cat apprentice -- she was still quite young. Fortunately, she was accepted even though she was already a warrior, and made the medicine cat apprentice. Silverspots, meanwhile, was becoming a very successful and well-known warrior. Though not all cats were intimidated by her, people knew to stay out of her way. Silverspots was beautiful, with silvery marbled bengal fur and summer blue eyes. She settled down and had a family while meanwhile Rainfall was still being trained. It was hard work, but Rainfall got through it, and often went to visit her sister while she was still in the nursery. The medicine cat retired after awhile, and Rainfall got to watch her sister's kits steadily progress in their aging as she became a medicine cat. Life was pretty much perfect for Rainfall... and then he came along and brang her whole world crashing down.
She had never noticed him before -- Thornfur, a stunning golden tabby. He had stunning forest green eyes that could hypnotize even the most tom-hating she-cat. He was a flirt and it wasn't long before he spotted Rainfall. To him it was harmless fun, but Rainfall knew instantly that she was in love. Even if it was unrequited, it was definitely love. What was she supposed to do? Medicine cats weren't supposed to fall in love. As a kit she thought they had no feelings, thought they simply went around their business, but she had been wrong this whole time. She couldn't hold in her feelings after awhile. She had to tell someone, so she told Silverspots. Silverspots was very dissappointed in her. The sisterly bond was broken -- Rainfall had no one to turn to anymore, so she did the only thing she could do. Rainfall confessed her feelings to Thornfur. Thankfully, he returned them, and soon they were happy together. But it was hard to hide it in the Clan, and soon some cats began to suspect something. It was one evening when Silverspots confronted her about it that Rainfall realized she couldn't lie anymore. She had to stop seeing Thornfur. So that night when they met, she coldly rejected him and stalked off without even supplying a reason. It was easier that way, to go and not look back, so she wouldn't see the hurt and shock slowly spreading across his face. If she told him straight out she would get the same reaction. It was just easier to do it that way.
Since then, Rainfall has avoided meeting him and tries to block her feelings from getting the better of her. She doesn't want to fall in love again, to break her own heart and the other cat's. Because of that, Rainfall suffers from a hurt no one understands, no one except perhaps the little cat inside her.
IC:
Sunlight filtered through the mossy walls of the medicine cat den as the sun slowly ascended into the sky, vanquishing the last of the moon's silverly rays. The sky was painted pastel colors of pink, blue and gold, a few cottony clouds adding to the scenery as the last of the glittering night stars dimmed. The world was faced with another spring day; early morning birds emitted their respective melodies and dangerous night hunters retreated to their shelters. Sunrise had come. As usual, Rainfall was up and about even before the great ball of fire had risen. She sat in a neat position with her tail curled around her paws, admiring the beauty of silverpelt. She mewed farewell to the last of her warrior ancestors, smiling at a star that shone as brightly as ever before being replaced by a wispy cloud. Rainfall had no doubt that that star was her sister Silverspots whom she had been very close with, but who had passed away of death disease only the night before. Death disease -- a fatal illness which killed you slowly. The first symptoms were when your bones began to ache, and then came the pain, the gnashing, excruciating pain tearing at your insides. Rainfall was only glad Silverspots had been put out of her misery. Despite her illness, Silverspots had kept a brave face and when she passed away, it was not spasming and screaming but instead in her sleep, a peaceful look forever plastered on her face.
Of course Rainfall had mourned. Every cat had mourned, especially Silverspots's mate and kits. But she was gone now, and the best thing to do was to get over it. Silverspots wouldn't want her sister to spiral into depression just because of her death. And so Rainfall tried not to. She locked the memories in the back of her mind, done with thinking. Rising to her feet, Rainfall stretched and yawned, then slid back into camp to check her herb supply. The night guard only nodded as she passed, too sleepy to object or to ask where she had been. "I'm running low on Belladonna leaves. I need to get some more," Rainfall thougthfully meowed to herself, but abruptly halted her jaw. If any cat saw her talking to herself... but it was the only intelligent conversation she could get, now that Silverspots had passed. Rainfall smiled at her own unhumorous joke. She had used Belladonna to calm the spasms that her sister often went into while she had been carrying Death Disease. Oh well. Once more she exited ThunderClan and entered the forest, her homeland, the place where she felt safe. Belladonna was scattered around the forest in clumps, so it wasn't long before Rainfall snatched up some and began to pad back. She heard the daily murmur of cats waking up, of the dawn patrol being sent out. Every day was the same. Day after day. Yet somehow Rainfall was always busy. She was never bored with her life, never daydreaming about what could lie beyond. She had imagination, yes, she was just too loyal to her Clan to think about it.
I better stop. I sound like the apprentices now. Always fantasizing about the life of a rogue... A small smile lit up Rainfall's features as she made her way to her den, careful to step around the sick cats inhabiting it.
