The moon cast a brilliant silver wash of light on the ground as Darkpaw wandered through the swamp. She had wandered further into the water, and the sound of her paws squishing in the mud made her flinch with every step. She tried to concentrate less on the bubbling water around her, less on the sound of locusts flitting about in the distance, and less on the circumstances. Instead, she focused more on keeping her head up high and walking; walking until she found a nice, quiet place. And just a little further ahead of her, she found the twists and tangles of old tree roots.
She dashed ahead the rest of the distance, and jumped into the roots, finding a little cozy spot with a convenient exit. She sighed and shook a clump of moss and dirt from her paw before sitting down and leaning up against one of the root. She could feel the shape of it against her back; all of the dents from the wear and tear. And the cool wetness of it soaked into her pelt, sending a chill down her spine. Above her, a few roots sheilded the light of the moon like bars, and the shafts of light came down, casting shadows on the moss and mud along the walls. The moon was close to full, and she laid down in a little bed of moss she had thrown together as a makeshift nest. It was close to perfect.
Darkpaw shivered a little as a cold breeze blew in and ruffled her fur. She curled her tail closer to her, and let out a contented sigh, if only for a moment. She had left camp to be alone. It had been a pretty rough day, and sometimes everyone just needs some time to themselves, right? She pondered that thought as she looked around her den. As strange as it sounds, sometimes when you need to be alone, it's because you're feeling lonely. It will all pass... but sometimes she didn't just want to be alone, and it was just too hard for her to admit that. Sometimes, deep inside she wanted to have somebody with her, somebody who would never leave her all alone. Yet, how could that ever happen?

[/b] Said the slightly larger one, blue eyes glistening with ecstasy and wonder. The other rolled her oddly crimson taitned eyes and began to run faster. "Hurry up! The... the uh herb is this way." She muttered, glancing backwards. "Right! I'm coming!" Spiderpaw called, rushing to catch up. His black pelt had long zig-zagging white markings that looked a lot like webs all over his pelt, making him illuminating in comparison to his jet black sister. Taintedpaw grinned maliciously. It was all too easy to trick her brother. Quickly, she took sharp turn to the right. She was leading her stupid brother on a merry into a trap she had set up the other day. She wanted him out of ShadowClan, he was no help to them in her opinon. She had always been deeply jelous her stupid jolly brother had been granted apprenticeship to the Medicine Cat. It was what Taintedpaw had wanted to be, but Spiderpaw was chosen. Foxdung! She silently seethed. Just then, Spiderpaw skittered to a stop far behind her. "What is it?" She snarled in a more ferocious tone than intended, as she skidded around to glare at him. He had stopped and was staring intensly into what appeared a knarled tangle of tree roots, but one couldn't be sure with this lack of light. Her brother was now washed over in the palee white glow of the moon as he stood directly in it's rays. He appeared rather interested in whatever was there. "What is it?!?" She repeated irritably. But Spiderpaw wasn't listening, he was nosing his way in. "Is that...." He murmered, taking a whiff of the plant. Yes! Catmint! And... and... ShadowClan? He wondered, eyes focusing deeper into the mangled roots. He noticed a dark shape lying in it, dark fur painted over with bars of silver moonlight. "Hello?"[/ul]

Two metallic grey eyes burned with a tinge of red as her eyes detected two cats in front of her. They were nothing more than apprentices, of course, but they still put Darkpaw on edge. One of her eyes twitched as she slowly stood up and stood as still as stone, watching them look into her tiny space with...curiosity? No, some other crazed emotion. One of them was larger, and definitely looked a little angry. The other one had an innocent look to him, and definitely had no idea what was going on.
"Hello?" She mocked quietly to herself before actually voicing a reply to them. "Yes?" She said, trying to match whoever spoke with an almost sarcastically curious tone. As if unphased, she sat back down again and licked her paw. "May I ask why you're here?" she asked in a sickeningly polite way. She was going to have fun with this.
Her eyes played games as she stepped into the light so the apprentices could see her. She smiled and her teeth glinted in the light in the most gentle, yet evil way. Her ears were pricked and she put her paw down, waiting for them to answer while she gave them a once-over in her head. Then, something clicked inside her brain. glancing at the smaller one, she recognized the medicine cat apprentice. Eyeing the shadowed left corner of her den, she saw a few plants that must be some kind of herb. Maybe they were looking for it...? she thought in her head and stood up to wander over to the corner.
Her tail flicked from side ot side and she delicately pulled one of the plants from the ground and went back to her spot in the light. Her eyes shined with her eagerness as she gripped the...herb, possibly? in her tail and she waved it gently. "Would you happen to be looking for this?" she murmured in a tempting voice, matching the expression on her face.

[/b] She snarled rathet feircly. The she cat turned away for a moment to examine where they were. Her trap was only feet away.. so close she was to becoming the Medicine Cat. Her brother meant nothing to her. Her eyes met his breifly but she looked away, and trotted to his side, though grudgingly avoiding touching him. Spiderpaw seemed to notice her resistance and merely sighed with an arrogant air. Spiderpaw refocused on staring into the crack. "Oh hello there, Darkpaw." Spiderpaw meowed, recognizing the voice immediatly. He sounded not in he least absent, as his sister did so irritbly. His bright blue eyes sparkled slightly. "Well Taintedpaw was showing me where some of this Catmint was.." He replied politely, sniffing again at the plants. "But if you like, I'll just leave you alone and take this herb here-" But she had stepped further into her hiding place and almost taken the plant right out of his mouth as he reached for it. He turned to her, looking curious. "What're you doing?" He asked, voice slightly strained. When he realized she had retreived the plant, he smiled slightly. "Yes, actually... Thanks." He said, grinning charmingly. He then waited, to see if she'd actually give it to him. "Hurry up will you? Stop talking to you imaginary friend over there and let's get a move on!" She snarled, looking furious with him. At first Spiderpaw appeared affronted by her tone, but then put it aside like he did most otoher of her rude commments. "As pleasent as your presence is, could I ask you to leave me alone for once?" He asked her, his voice sweet but tainted with sarcasm.[/ul]

Darkpaw smiled at the young medicine cat apprentice and that last little piece of sarcasm that came from his mouth. It amused her, and she realized that she was taking a liking to him, if even a little. His friend...or sister? (she couldn't really tell at the moment) however was just nasty. What is her problem? "Hey, smarty over there, with that attitude this will be taking all night." she meowed loudly in a sour tone of voice. Her eyes shut for a moment before speaking to Spiderpaw again. "Good, then this should be good for you. But just one question: If you were looking for one herb, why is Miss Attitude over there in such a hurry to go? It's worth looking into, if you ask me." she added in an almost sweet way, just because it was Darkpaw speaking.
She looked around and sighed. She then saw his gaze trailing to the herb she had in her tail; the one she had almost forgotten about. "Oh! Right, the herb, sorry. I almost forgot." she meowed, smiling again. She grabbed the herb in her teeth again and set it down on the ground between them so he could pick it up. "Tell Miss Grumpypelt over there that I said hi." she added in a pleasant tone, and a little snicker. " If you need more herbs I saw there were a few growing back where I found that one."

[/b] He meowed, taking the herbs from her and placing them at his paws. Then he looked a bit surprised, and glanced backwards at his fuming sister. "Yeah, we've found the Catmint... why would we need to keep going?" He asked her, perplexed. "What were you going to do?" He added, suspicion licking at his voice like fire would. Taintedpaw stared at the two of them, affronted. "What did you just call me?!" Taintedpaw hissed, eyes ablaze. She wasn't going to be talked to like this, no way. "What do you mean by that?" She spat venomously. "I was bringing you to find some Chamomile!'" This was a lie, of course. This she cat was making her own brother doubt her now. And if he doubted her, it was unlikely he'd walk into her trap at all, which would be most depressing. She was feeling particularly nasty right now. "Keep your fur on!" Spiderpaw shot back at his sister, looking slightly snide. "I think this is enough anyways, so you can just head back to camp. Besides, we have a good stock of Chamomile right now.." He said through gritted teeth, watching his sister. Wolfeye had gathered some the other day... Wolfeye the name stung him. She was gone, his mentor. To tell the truth, he was quite afraid of who his new mentor may be.[/ul]

"Well, now it seems like you will be going back to camp, Taintedpaw." Darkpaw said with a sly grin as she advanced out of the roots so she could talk to Taintedpaw directly. "Does that," she said, and walked further towards Taintedpaw until she was face to face with her. "Bother you?" Darkpaw added, her eyes narrowed as she looked the she-cat in the eye. Tiny swirls of red danced in her eyes, reflecting the annoyance and anger she felt towards the apprentice. The fur on her back bristled slightly.
"And exactly where is this...chamomile?" Darkpaw continued with the same edge in her voice. "If you know these herbs so well, tell me, Taintedpaw, what does chamomile look like?" she interrogated with her usual catty expression. The little light that the moon and the stars gave off made her eyes shine and her cheekbones look chiseled, making her look beautiful no matter what her expression.
