Redfang walked through the woods alone. Robinwing had been confined to camp for his mouth. He'll never learn to just shut-up, Redfang thought. The forest was full of sounds and smells. She loved to walk through it. Her mussels flexed smoothly under her pelt as she walked. The young she-cat's pelt was ruffled by a small breeze which felt good. It had been rather warm lately. Redfang was unlike most cats, and loved leaf-bare because it was nice and cool. She sniffed the air for prey. She enjoyed her life in ThunderClan, even though half of her blood was of RiverClan heritage. Most cats didn't understand her and Robinwing because of that, even though both young cats knew that they were loyal to ThunderClan, no one else.
Redfang paused to sniff the air. She had figured she mind as well hunt while she was out. Redfang didn't like to hunt. Fact was, she couldn't hunt too well, and neither could Robinwing. She only hunted when see was bored, told to, or when the Clan needed it. She never really was a hunter. She was always more of a fighter, as well as Robinwing. As she sniffed the air, an odd scent caught her attention, but she ignored it and went back to her hunting.

The black kitten urged his exhauseted sister, tapping her shoulder with his tail. "Just a little farther.." He mewed as they bounded through the thick grasses. It was hard enough to see as it was with the sunlight, but now they had to navigate through the tall grass. It was all very hard to do, especially when a nasty fox was clawing and nipping at their tails. The two were only about a moon old, thrown out of their only home by their father. And they had been out in the wilderness for days now, without food or water, or anything.[/ul]

A yell of a kit caught Redfang's ears, her attention leaving the mouse she had been stalking. What is a kit doing out here? but she quickly pushed the thought away. Redfang needed to help the kits or there might be a few more with StarClan today. Her heart hammered as she bounded towards the cry. Something was telling her to let it go and just back to hunting, but her paws kept moving forward. The smell of two kits hit her nose, as well as a smell she was taught to always fear. Fox! At the top of a hill she looked down and saw a white kit and a black one fleeing for their lives from a fox double Redfang's size.
Without thinking, without planning it, Redfang leaped. She got the fox on it's shoulders. It snarled and snapped at her paw, skiming it's fang acroos her fur. Drops of blood stained the grass, but Redfang paid no attention. "Run! Climb a tree if you can! I'll keep it busy!" Redfang yelled at the kits. She bit into its neck, but the fox threw her off. It tried to bit her ear, but she lashed out her claws, scoring just above its eye. The fox yelled in pain, and slamed its paw on top of Redfang, and clawed her ear.

She cried pleadingly. She didcn't want her brother to be hurt or killed. He was all she had left, and he wwas her best friend. She wailed again and sprung from the branch, landing on the fox's head. She dug her small but sharp claws into the fox's eyes, hopefully blinding it. "Leave us alone!" She squeaked. [/ul]

"Are you insane?! Go and hide! Before it kills you both!" snarled Redfang. It wasn't really her nature to snarl at kits, but if she had to get them to leave, it, she'd do it. The last thing she wanted to see was these kits get hurt or worse. Redfang clawed at the fox's face, trying to keep its attention on her rather than the kits. Latched onto its eyes was one of the kits. She grabed the scruff of the kit and laid her on the ground. She wouldn't be able to move the second kit without it noticing it , and only StarClan knows what the fox would do to him.
There were only a few options on what she could do. She could leave, and let the kits be killed. She could be killed to sve the kits. Or she could try and kill the fox, but she would need more warriors with her for that. But another though leaped into her head, and quickly she chose it. Redfang leaped at the fox and bit its neck. Blood dropped from its neck and the fow yowled in pain. It had had enough, and fled. Redfang's heart leaped for joy. She looked at the two kit laying there. They had to be tried. Gently she mewed," What are your names? Where did you come from?"

The tiny white she kitten mewed almost in a whisper. She was shaking with fear and confusion now. Her little legs didn't look like they'd be able to support her. "D-D-Do y-you kno-w wh-ere our m-m-mama is?" She stammered, a tear leaking from one of her bright green eyes. She whimpered a bit and curled herself protectively into a ball. She was afraid of all this. It happened too fast for her to follow. Octoberkit staggered away from the beast, one paw raised gingerly. He limped to his sister's side and licked her ears comfortingly. His paw had been slightly injured by fox when it fell over on top of him. "I'm October. This is my sister. We don't really know where we came from... but our dad kicked us out of the barn a few days ago and that was as far back as I remember." The black kitten announced, looking rather pleased with himself. "And who are you?" He asked inquisitively.[/ul]

Redfang looked at the kits. December was scarred as could be and October had a hurt paw. Pity swelled in her chest. "No, little one, I don't know where your mother is. I am Redfang. Come, you're coming home with me. Don't worry, you are safe with me," Redfang said soft and gently. She picked October up by his scuff and flicked her tail for December to follow. The last thing she wanted was to leave these kits here. all alone with no home to go to. Just outsiders, banned from their home. Just like me and Robinwing in a way, Redfang thought.
As she trotted towards camp, thoughts hit her head. She had just brought outsider kits into the camp. Wingedstar is going to kill me, Redfang thought, but pushed the thought away when she looked at the kits. Affection showed in her eyes as she looked at them. With a pause to gather her courage, she walked into camp. There was Robinwing, sitting there looking mad, but that disappeared as soon as he saw the kits. Redfang paid no attention to him. She needed to talk to Wingedstar, who was sitting outside her den.

cat and nodded thoughtfully. When he was picked up, he squirmed a bit. "Pick my sister up, I can walk." He told her, eyes flickering with determination and protectiveness. He would do anything to keep his sister safe. "Where are we going?" He added in a sort of whiny voice. "These trees are tall..." Was sometihng he'd say on the way back. "Look at that rock! It's HUGE!" And it went on. December limped along behind the two, barely able to keep up. Her bright green eyes were alit with determination though. She gazed at her brother with affection and love as he said he wanted Redfang to carry her instead of himself. He was always nice and always cared so much for her. The white kitten was so much smaller than him too, she seemed so vulnerable in his eyes, so helpless. Wingedstar had been sitting outside her den, enjoying the lovely weather. She was currently in the process of grooming herself when she heard pawsteps at the entrance of camp. She figured it was only the morning patrol coming in and looked over with dazed eyes. But her bright blue optics flew open in shock at what she was seeing. Without a moments concideration, she had bolted up and over to Redfang so they were eye to eye. "Redfang? Would you please explain why you have two scarred up non-ThunderClan kits in camp?" She asked, looking very determined.[/ul]

Redfang put October down gently, and gazed back into Wingedstar's blue eyes. "Wingedstar, I was out hunting when I heard a kit cry. I went to investigate and found both of these kits being attacked by a fox. I killed the fox, and I asked where they where from. They said they used to live in a barn, but they had been thrown out. I didn't want to leave them there. They were easy prey for just about anything." Redfang mewed.
She looked at the confused face of Robinwing, who had come over to listen. Redfang looked at December and October, and she knew what she had to do. "There names are October and December. December is the white she-cat, and October is the black tom. Wingedstar, I have never asked for much, just a place in your Clan, but now I ask you to let both kits stay here. They have no where else to go," Redfang pleaded. She saw shock on Robinwing's face but didn't care. She didn't want these kits to be sent back out into the forest.

will have to nurse them and be their "mother". Right now we don't have any queens to nurse them, and they are yours. So they are your responisbilty, alright?" Wingedstar asked. "Now take Octoberkit and Decemberkit to the Medicine Cat immediaty." She nodded and then turned to walk back to her den. But before she got their, she turned. "Nice job killing the fox by the way."October looked up at Redfang then at Wingedstar. "Why'd she add kit to the ends of our names? Are we gonna be called Octoberkit and Decemberkit forever?" He whined, eyes widening. He glanced at his sister who was busy licking her matted fur and didn't notice. Octoberkit.... Octoberkit... What a weird name... But it kinda sounds cool... well... maybe if it wasn't kit but something else... October wondered as he stared intently at the ground.[/ul]

Redfang nodded to Wingedstar as her heart leaped for joy. They could stay! Redfang knew that taking care of the kits was her punishment, but she hardly mind. "No, you will not be Octoberkit and Decemberkit forever. She added the word kit to the end of your names because it lets other cats know what you are. Right now you are kits, so your names are Decemberkit and Octoberkit. One day you will be apprentices, and your names will be Octoberpaw and Decemberpaw. Then your names will change again, but the white she-cat you just met will choose your names. She is our leader, Wingedstar," Redfang mewed, doubting that the kits even understood what she just said.
Looking at their scratched bodies and matted fur reminded her to take them to the medicine cat. "Come on, lets go get you something to make you feel better, then you can sleep," Redfang mewed, and flicked her tail for them to follow her the the medicine cat's den. Robinwing followed them as well and came up next to Redfang and whispered," What are you thinking?! They aren't even Clan born! You do realize that this means you'll have to watch them all the time, right?" Redfang had had enough of her brother. She whipped around and hit his head hard with her shelted paw. She looked at Decemberkit and Octoberkit and gave them each a lick before mewing softly,"Ignore him, he's not that bad once you get to know him. Come on."

((OOC: kind of short, sorry.))
Rainfall had been working quietly outside her den. Her apprentice was out gathering herbs and perhaps practicing fighting moves with the other apprentices; she was left to sort the herbs and make sure everything was stocked up and fresh. The she-cat was just about finishing when she saw Redfang, a fellow warrior, come into view with two kits at her heels. Rainfall caught her breath. The kits looked starved and dehydrated as well as having some recent nips and bites along their tails and body. Redfang, too, was bleeding. Had they suffered a recent attack? Quickly she disappeared inside her den to snatch up some cobweb. Returning outside, Rainfall evaluated the kits and Redfang. The warrior seemed fine, except for a rather painful-looking wound on her ear (inflicted by whatever had attacked them, Rainfall assumed), but the kits looked to be a lot worse off. They were obviously exhausted. Rainfall could see that their pads were worn down as if they had run a great distance. They were malnourished as well; both tails were bleeding as if something large had bitten or swiped at it. Probably a badger, but no, the cuts were too small for that. Fox? The probability was high. Rainfall rested her gentle eyes on the kits. They had to be taken care of first. She gave a slight glance at their other scars; those were fine, probably old cuts gone and healed as much as they could now. The cuts didn't look infected, but they were very recent because they were still bleeding, which was why she would apply Cobweb after the other herbs. Because they were certain to be painful, she grabbed some of her Goldenrod Leaves and bit down hard, forcing a few drops of Goldenrod Juice to drip out on a small piece of moss. She then squeezed this over their wounds -- Goldenrod Juice did not do any actual healing, however, it did numb pain.
Now to make sure it didn't get infected or painfully swelled. Alder Tree Bark prevented infection and swelling. She chewed the tree bark until it was a soft, mushy pulp, then gently administered it to their tails and any other wounds they sustained. They weren't deep, but just in case... last of all she dressed it with cobweb. Now for food, drink, and rest. She turned to Redfang. "These kits will be fine. However, they need food and water immediately. After that, you should bring them back here so they can rest on one of my soft beds of moss; they're exhausted. Make sure that they don't eat or drink too fast or in large amounts at once otherwise they can fall severely ill. Also, your ear looks okay to me, but I want to put some cobweb on it just to stop the bleeding... just in case." She stated this while applying the cobweb to Redfang's ear, careful not to touch it in case it hurt. Looking down at the kits, she continued kindly, "So what are your names? I'm Rainfall, the ThunderClan medicine cat. If your tails still hurt, I could give you a poppy seed for the pain, although I wouldn't reccomend it straight after eating." As any cat would be, she was curious about these kits' origins, but she was polite enough not to inquire. Rainfall had an especially soft spot for kits.

." He meowed, the word fang rolling off his tongue pleasently. Then he looked stricken with curiousity. "And... you used to be Redkit then? Just like how we are now?" He asked excitedly, tail waving back in forth in a swift moving rythm that could make any cat dizzy. "And then you became Redpaw?" Decemberkit cut in with a squeak. She then looked a little shy, blushing. She hadn't said anything that bold the entire time. She could feel a purr from her brother and her pelt tingled. He must be happy that she was coming out of her shell for once. Now, with newly sparkling eyes, she stood up straight, tail sticking up. "I bet we'll be real good when we get older and Wingedstar will make us warriors!" She giggled. Octoberkit smiled at his sister and licke dher between the ears. "Yeah I bet. Maybe we'll even be as good as Redfang!" He gasped, eyes widening with wonder. "Maybe!" Decemberkit whispered, looking equally astounded. She then looked up to see a big cat, that looked a bit like Redfang. "Hi! " She called up, before obediently trotting alongside her brother after Redfang. "I'm hungry.."They walked into a strong smelling den. It was a sharp, tangy, sweet and bitter smell all at the same time. It was the most incredible thing Decemberkit had ever smelled. She was immediatly put into a trance by the wonderous world of a medicine cat den. Only when her brother pawed her gently on the shoulder did she snap out of it. The two looked up at Rainfall with curiousity in their bright big eyes. "So are you gonna help us feel all better?" Decemberkit asked boldly as the cat approached. When the cat began applying different plants to their cuts and wounds, she observed keenly. "What's that stuff? What does it do?" She asked, sniffing the Golden Rod and Cobweb. It was all very interesting to her. "My name's Octoberkit! And this is Decemberkit, my sister!" Octoberkit exclaimed suddenly.[/ul]

Redfang looked at the two kits. "Yes, when I was your age, my name was Redkit. And yes, it did become Redpaw before I became Redfang," she mewed softly to the kits, glad that they were understanding some of it. Redfang looked at Rainfall, as she helped the kits, and felt so grateful to the medicine cat that she could hardly put it into words. She hardly noticed as Rainfall stopped the bleeding in her ear as she listened to the kits and how hungry the were.
Her attention turned to Rainfall as she gave instructions on what to do with the kits. "Do me a favor and watch them for one moment as I go and get food?" Redfang asked Rainfall, and left without waiting for an answer. She grabbed to mice from the clearing and dropped them infront of the kits after she got back. She listened, amused at the kits questions for the medicine she-cat.

Rainfall smiled at the kits as they asked their questions. She nodded at Octoberkit in thanks when he voiced their names. Decemberkit and Octoberkit... pretty, unique names. She hadn't heard yet a cat who had been named that. "I can help you if you're in pain or suffering from some sort of illness or wound. That's what medicine cats do." In response to her other question, the gentle she-cat continued, "Well, the liquid substance I dripped onto your tails is called Goldenrod Juice. It's the juice collected from a plant called Goldenrod. It makes your pain go away but does no real healing; a poppy seed also makes pain go away, but you have to swallow that and some cats are too weak, so I always make sure we have lots of Goldenrod. Alder Tree Bark is used to prevent infection and swelling, which makes wounds more painful and dangerous, potentially fatal at times. Cobwebs can be collected anywhere. They stop bleeding right away." Rainfall couldn't help but feel as if she were rattling on like one of those cats who just talked to hear their own voice, but the kit had asked. Rainfall smiled at Decemberkit. The kit was only one moon old but already asking questions, which was good. Maybe she'd become the apprentice of Tansypaw. But Rainfall couldn't get her hopes up because she knew both the kits aspired to be warriors, at least she could infer it because of the stuff they had excitedly told each other and Redfang on the way here, and plus she'd definitely be around for a while yet. She nodded at Redfang. As with Tansypaw, Rainfall felt an almost motherly protection over the kits, but she knew this was stronger in Redfang, so she let it pass. She wasn't sure if the kits were used to solid food since they were one moon old -- they were probably still used to their mother's sweet milk, and if they had been weaned too early, then the nutrients and protective germs supplied within the mother's milk would not be stored in their bodies, which made them, to put it bluntly, vulnerable to any kind of disease or infection. That meant they would be extra weak. Then again, they might've already received the necessary nutrients. But if they hadn't their death would come around much earlier than some cats.
She looked at the two mice Redfang had attained and watched the kits. She'd slow them down if they ate too fast. They certainly looked like they were hungry. Suddenly Rainfall's eye hardened. Who would dare to abandon two kits only one moon old? Who would dare to let them go wandering around in the wilderness, unprotected, unsheltered, without food or water, and completely open to attacks from predators? What if Redfang hadn't been there? And how had they survived all this time? Her questions remained unanswered and would probably never be, but she didn't care. For once Rainfall was angry. She would definitely hunt down whoever left the kits to die and attack him. Even medicine cats could be violent; they of course learned their battle moves like any other cat. Rainfall shifted from one leg to the other. She wondered where the kits' mother was. Their mother was probably out of her mind with fear, unless she was dead, or she was the one that had abandoned them. For now Redfang would be their mother. After a few days in her den, though, they'd have to return to sleep in the nursery. Redfang or an older cat they knew (if they had socialized by then) should probably go with them for comfort unless they felt they were brave enough to be confined to a place full of strange cats. Another smile graced Rainfall's features. Decemberkit seemed to be the more timid but level-headed one of the kits, and Octoberkit seemed the brave one who thought he could do anything. But what could you expect from one-moon-old kits? Then Rainfall realized she hadn't heard their story yet. "So, how'd you end up here?" she asked the kits. Partly asking Redfang, too, but she wanted to hear the story from the beginning.
